Knee joint is an articulation between 4 bones, namely the thigh bone (femur), kneecap (patella), tibia & fibula (long bones of leg). The bones are further supported by soft tissues structures such as muscles, ligaments, tendons, menisci and cartilage. Knee pain may occur due to various reasons, such as wear and tear of the supporting structures, malalignment of the bones, etc.
Types of Knee Pain
Knee pain is 2 types: acute & chronic.
Acute knee pain (mostly localized) arises due to an injury or direct trauma to the knee joint such as falling over or direct hit over the joint (mostly occurs while playing sports).
Chronic pain is the pain that is constant and lasts for a long period. This is mostly associated with swelling and inflammation in one or both knees.
